DEAN OF STUDENTS
The College has a Dean of Student who has the mandate to promote and oversee the academic and social welfare of students in liaison with other officers of the college, including the Principal, Deputy Principal, Registrar, Dean of Faculty, Wardens, and the Chaplain. Details on the Dean of Students can be found in the Students Handbook (Rules and Regulations)
Specifically the Dean of students helps the college in:
- Facilitating provision of services to students experiencing physical, psychological and social problems. This includes students with disabilities
- Providing academic support to students
- Identifying needy students and assist them find financial aid in form of scholarship
- Working in collaboration with sports patron in identifying recreation services for students
- Working with administration on matters relating to students’ welfare e.g. accommodation
Students can access the office of Dean of students as follows:
Monday to Friday: during tea break, lunch break then 4:30PM to 5:00PM
Weekends and public holiday: Arrangement is made depending on issues affecting students.
Special arrangement is made in case of an emergency e.g. sudden illness of a student, death of student’s relative.
Students are also informed that they can book an appointment with the Dean of students after working hours depending on urgency of the issues.
STUDENT SPIRITUAL LIFE
The College also allows students of all faiths to practice their own religion as enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi. There are a number of religious groups and clubs on campus, most of which conduct their worship services on campus and meet regularly every week on agreed times.
The Office of the Chaplain is the one stop Centre for students’ spiritual guidance and counselling for students of all faiths. All students are free to consult the College Chaplain for spiritual advice.
STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
There is also the Students’ Union which is the official body established under the College Rules and Regulations outlined in the Students’ Handbook. The Student Union is an annually elected body with an executive committee led by a president and is tasked with advancing students’ interests on campus.
